President's Message- June 2025

By Ashley Stewart posted 18 days ago

June brings a time of reflection – reflections back on our recent Strategic Planning session for NSH! The Board of Directors and NSH Staff met on May 6th and 7th in Baltimore, MD for two days of intense concentration and discussions for our organization and profession.  These sessions are usually held every three years to explore new avenues and directions for NSH.  We can’t wait to share with you the exciting things that are coming!

The NSH Election ends June 6th so please take time to cast your vote for our candidates if you have not already done so.  We had a great slate of candidates for this election.

Over the past week, I had the honor of interviewing our three keynote speakers for the upcoming Convention—Dr. Nicholas Hoo-Fatt, Mr. Dan Scungio, and Dr. Jiwoon Park. In the weeks ahead, you'll learn more about these remarkable individuals, but one clear takeaway is this: there is tremendous opportunity for histotechs to lead in the lab—whether by implementing digital pathology and AI, advancing the science of spatial omics, or simply by being willing to take a chance!

The NSH Convention provides an interchange of ideas relevant to histotechnology and to advance professional growth, standards, knowledge, and performance in histotechnology through continuing and formal educational programs.  The Convention is fast approaching with over 90 + workshops and presentations, great rates and registration options for a variety of educational needs and opportunities.  The Exhibit Hall is full of exciting new instruments, products and vibrant representatives who energetically and vigorously support both NSH and our profession.

We have two new features at the Convention this year – an updated Poster Showcase and Tuesday Roundtables. The Poster Showcase is a series of live presentations in a dedicated presentation area in the Exhibit Hall, on a large screen with a small seating area for the audience. Showcases will last 15 minutes and the presenters selected will have a 5-10 presentation about their research for the showcase. Tuesday Roundtables will be on the final morning of the convention, NSH will host a roundtable breakfast in the Exhibit Hall. This is a chance for you to sit down with your fellow colleagues to discuss a wide-range of issues, from lab operations to best practices to something new you've learned in Long Beach. Vendor booths will be open, and vendors will have the opportunity to sit down and learn with you.  Make your plans to attend Long Beach September 26th – 30th, 2025.

Sadly, Alex Brownstein, our Meeting and Exhibits Manager, has left the NSH Staff.  Alex has done a phenomenal job with our Convention and Exhibits.  Thank you, Alex and best wishes for your career and new endeavor!

Please contact any of the NSH Board members or NSH Staff for answers to your thoughts and questions.  We are here to help serve you!

Thanks Lamar! Your letters from the President are always so informative and will hopefully build excitement for the coming symposium! I especially liked your statement that histotechnologists can achieve great things in our field. Keep the good work coming and thanks!
